Is it okay to give my dog human omega 3 vitamins?

My dog is a three year old greyhound lab mix. She has horrible shedding problems due to dry skin. I’ve read that omega 3 should help and wanted to know if it is okay to give my dog human omega 3. All it is is fish oil. I can’t see how ones formulated specifically for dogs could be any different. But that’s why I’m asking.
Also, we’ve invested in the Furminator dog brush/grooming product so we will see how well it works in a couple of weeks.
Any advice would be beneficial. Thank you.

why would you? No…..give it dogfood…..that’s all he needs unless otherwise directed by a vet.
Yeah its perfectly fine to give you dog omega 3 vitamins my dog has been taking them for a while and it really helps keep his hair healthy.
Call and ask your vet. The omega 3 oils might be beneficial for your dog. It doesn’t hurt to ask. Also ask about dosage.
Lets see dog…..human vitamins. NO!!!!!!!!! thats like a human eating a dog bone. NO DUH!!!!!!!!
I think it might prefer proper food.
you can call any vet and ask if it would be ok over the phone, they should be able to tell you. also, dont listen to the people who say not to give a dog anything for humans, as long as it’s ok’d by the vet, you’re fine. many dog/human medications/vitamins are interchangeable.
irene -seriously- is it good for you to take a dogs’ vitamin?? they make vitamins for dogs w/omega-3- i give mine jointeez which has omega 3 in it? if your dog has a stomache ache are u gonna give it pepto bismol too???

I used to breed & groom Poodles.
As a breeder, there are many human things you can give to your anima; like a DOG, that are ok for their bodies.
Omega 3 Vitamin, (liquid, tubular, caplets) are simply Cod Liver Oil inside. Very good for Dogs and People.
If you are doig this for their hair (not fur), bones, teeth, eyes that is good. Also, can putin Brewer’s Yeast flakes and Wheat Germ flakes; that will fortify your dog’s stamina much more. One egg a day, raw or cooked, for their coat of hair is great. It may become a bit drier, so add about 1/8 cup of water (no milk) and put into the can food.
When I was a teenager, we put a raw egg in my Dog’s can food, with the Yeast and Germ flakes; just mix it all up with the liquid and your dog will eat it all up. And its not something that you have to do every single day; you can stagger the days. Like M-W-F or T-TH or just on Saturdays. Days are up to you.
If you take good care of your Dog during the week; you won’t need to put them on Vitamins.

You have not said how old you are, nor your Dog.
If you have a “flea” problem; feed your Dog garlic, 1-2 pieces plucked from the big flower; put it in the same mix; just chop it up small – so your Dog doesn’t taste just that and not eat the rest of its food, ok?
This I know will do the job; All these items are in the local markets. Omega 3 in the health food stores. All very inexpensive too. OK?

Yes my dog has been taking it for dry skin. Works great. 1200 mg. for 20lbs and up Just stick a pin in it and put it on the food or squirt in his/her mouth.
